The week after Thanksgiving is the week the first cold snap hits the north and the snowbird weeks start, and the case for the warm dock is the one that makes the trip work.

The cold snap

The first cold snap is the version of the weather that makes the snowbird week a trip. The north is in the 30s, the lake is in the 70s, and the air on the dock is the version of the air that does not require a jacket. The boat ramps are empty, the trails are empty, and the only sound is the engine and the water. This is the version of a winter morning that makes the trip worth it, and it is the version you cannot get at home.

The plan

Morning on the dock, a coffee at Black & Brew, a loaf from Born & Bread, a walk at Bonnet Springs Park, an afternoon that does not have to be planned, and a dinner at Cob & Pen or Nineteen61. That is the day, and you can do it five of them. The houses we manage all have the setup that makes a snowbird week work, a real kitchen, a real yard, and a real dock.

The golf option

Late November is the middle of the Polk County golf off-season, and the tee sheets are the ones that are still empty. The Club at Eaglebrooke is the one to play, and the move is to book the tee time for the first morning of the week, because the off-season tee times are the ones that do not require a waiting list.

The local tip: the snowbird weeks are the ones that have the best rate for the best weather, and the best rate for the best weather is the one that does not require a budget conversation. Book the dock house first and the week will take care of itself.

Send us your dates and whether you want a dock. We manage seven houses on and around Lake Lakeland and we will match you to the one that is the right distance from the water and the right size for your group.
