The first full week of fall on Lake Lakeland is the one boaters plan the year around, and the reason is simple: the summer crowds have left and the winter crowds have not arrived.

The water

The water is flat in the morning because the wind has not picked up, and the air is in the 70s, which is the exact temperature a boat morning is supposed to be. The boat ramps are empty, the trails are empty, and the only sound is the engine and the water. This is the version of a fall morning that makes the trip worth it, and it is the version you cannot get in the summer.

The plan

A boat morning, an early lunch, an afternoon that does not have to be planned. The houses we manage that have a dock are the ones that make the week work, because the dock is the front yard. A coffee on the dock, a loaf from Born & Bread, a walk at Bonnet Springs Park, and a dinner at Cob & Pen. That is the day, and you can do it five of them.

The golf option

October is the end of the Polk County golf off-season, and the tee sheets are the ones that are still empty. The Club at Eaglebrooke is the one to play, and the move is to book the tee time for the first morning of the week, because the early morning is the version of a fall round that does not require a plan.

The local tip: the first week of fall is the one that has the best rate for the best weather, because the rate structure has not yet switched to the fall structure. Book the dock house first and the week will take care of itself.

Send us your dates and whether you want a dock. We manage seven houses on and around Lake Lakeland and we will match you to the one that is the right distance from the water and the right size for your group.
